2009 College Bowl Season Preview: Part 2
Heading into week two of the college bowl season there are nine games between Christmas and New Year’s Eve that feature quite a few big named schools like USC, Miami, Clemson and Pittsburgh. While these schools would much rather be playing in a bigger named bowl, these games will be filled with a ton a great football action as they will be out to prove something with a win. Below is a preview of some of the games along with their current betting lines.

Boston College vs. USC (-9) Over/Under 44
The Boston College Eagles are currently 8-4 overall, 5-3 in the ACC. The USC Trojans also come in with an 8-4 record overall, 5-4 in the PAC 10. This will the first time the Trojans will play in a non BCS bowl game since 2001 after losing three out of their last five regular season games. The Eagles have won eight of their last nine bowl games and despite being a heavy underdog should be able to provide a stern test for Southern Cal.
Meineke Car Care Bowl – Saturday, December 26th, 4:00 P.M.
North Carolina vs. Pittsburgh (-3) Over/Under 45
The North Carolina Tar Heels come into this game with an 8-4 record overall, 4-4 in the ACC. The Pitt Panthers are currently 9-3 overall, 5-2 in the Big East. The Tar Heels will rely on their top 10 ranked defense to try and stop the Panthers from getting their first 10 win season since Dan Marino was their quarterback.
Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl – Sunday, December 27th, 8:00 P.M.
Kentucky vs. Clemson (-8) Over/Under 52
The Kentucky Wildcats went 7-5 overall this season, 3-5 in the SEC. The Clemson Tigers come in at 8-5 overall, 6-2 in the ACC. This will be Kentucky’s fourth straight bowl game appearance and they have won their previous three. Clemson’s offense features ACC Player of the Year C.J. Spiller who rushed for 1145 yards and 11 TD’s this season.
Independence Bowl – Monday, December 28th, 5:00 P.M.
Texas A&M vs. Georgia (-7) Over/Under 66
The Texas A&M Aggies have a 6-6 record overall, 3-5 in the Big 12. The Georgia Bulldogs come in with a 7-5 record overall, 4-4 in the ACC. Both these teams lost too many key games this season because of inconsistencies and crucial breakdowns on defense which explains the high total line. Given the fact that they both have an offense that can put up a ton of points, this game should light up the scoreboard as well as be a fun one to watch.
Champs Sports Bowl -Tuesday, December 29th, 8:00 P.M.
Miami (FL.) (-4) vs. Wisconsin Over/Under 59
The Miami Hurricanes have a record of 9-3 overall, 5-3 in the ACC. The Wisconsin Badgers are also 9-3 overall, 5-3 in the Big 10. Miami has not won a bowl game since 2006, but started the season unranked and are now currently 14th after winning four of their last five regular season games. The Badgers have also won four out their last five averaging 39 points a game.
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl – Wednesday, December 30th, 8:00 P.M.
Nebraska (-2) vs. Arizona Over/Under 40
The Nebraska Cornhuskers come into this one with a 9-4 record overall, 6-2 in the Big 12. The Arizona Wildcats went 8-4 overall, 5-3 in the PAC 10. The Cornhuskers were one second away from knocking off Texas and the Wildcats came very close to beating Oregon so they have proved they can play with some of the best. Nebraska’s defense should be the difference in this one as they are ranked 9th overall, giving up an average of only 11.2 points per game.
