2011 MLB Mock Draft
The 2011 MLB Draft will be held from June 6-8 and this is owned by the Tampa Bay Rays, who has 10 of the first 60 picks. Of course, unlike the
NBA and NFL Drafts, the MLB Draft does not offer instant help. However, first-rounders from college who are drafted in 2011 are expected to be up to the major league level by 2013 at the earliest. Here is a look at the projected first round of the MLB Draft, by player, team, their school, position and size.

Round 1
1)Pittsburgh Anthony Rendon
3B Rice 6-0, 190
Analysis: Rendon has just four homers this year but walked 62 times because he has no protection in the lineup. A sore shoulder limited his production and forced him to DH. But he’s a tremendous talent and one of the best hitting prospects in years. It will be tough for the Pirates to ignore him.
2)Seattle Gerrit Cole
RHP UCLA 6-4, 220
Analysis: Cole has above average velocity and a strong changeup. He can bring it up to 98mph with good off speed stuff. But he is represented by Scott Boras, which could scare off teams.
3)Arizona Sonny Gray
RHP Vanderbilt 5-11, 180
Analysis: A smallish right-hander with a mid-nineties fastball. He also has one of the better curveballs in the draft. Comes from same skill that delivered David Price.
4)Baltimore Dylan Bundy
RHP Owasso HS 6-1, 200
Analysis: Has committed to Texas. His brother Bobby was an 8th-round pick by Orioles in 2008. Had five one-hitters in high school and had 95 Ks in 42 innings at one point. Also threw a ton of pitches including 185 in one game.
5)Kansas City Bubba Starling
OF Gard. Edgerton HS 6-4, 180
Analysis: A big-time talent who has committed to Nebraska to play football. He could drop because of bonus demand. Also has nursed a sore quad. Has great size with potential to fill out. Only question is will he play centerfield or quarterback?
6)Washington Danny Hultzen
LHP Virginia 6-2, 195
Analysis: Lacks great stuff but very polished. Walked just 12 in 75.2 IPs with 112 KS. Currently 9-1 with a 1.19 ERA. Was drafted by Arizona in 2008. Washington needs all the help they can get and he’s somewhat local.
7)Arizona Taylor Jungmann
RHP Texas 6-6, 195
Analysis: Was drafted by the LA Angels in 2008. He’s a big righty with a mid-nineties fastball and plus slider. Has excellent control and is a three-pitch guy.
8)Cleveland Francisco Lindor
SS Monteverde Ac. 5-11, 175
Analysis: Committed to Florida State. Is the closest thing to Manny Machado in this draft. Runs very well and has potential to hit 20 home runs.
9)Chicago Cubs Taylor Guerrieri
RHP Sping Valley HS 6-3, 180
Analysis: Committed to South Carolina. A power pitcher who has hit 98 mph. Also has a good curve ball.
10)San Diego Trevor Bauer
RHP UCLA 6-1, 175
Analysis: Led the NCAA in strikeouts last year with 165 in 131.1IP. Has outpitched Gerrit Col going 8-1 with a 1.42 ERA and 142 Ks.
11)Houston Matt Barnes
RHP UConn 6-4, 203
Analysis: Has a 4-seamer that sits around 93 to 94 mph and can reach 97. Has 11 to 5 curve with sweeping slider. One of the few pitchers who could be major league ready late in 2011 or early in 2012.
12)Milwaukee Brandon Nimmo
OF East HS (Wyo) 6-2, 185
Analysis: A five-tool player with speed (34 steals). Had a torn ACL in 2009, but that doesn’t appear to be a concern now.
13)NY Mets Archie Bradley
RHP Broken Arrow HS 6-4, 210
Analysis: Committed to Oklahoma. Also plays football. Has great curveball with 93mph heater. Could play qb and pitch at Oklahoma but bonus may be too much assuming Mets can afford it.
14)Florida George Springer
OF UConn 6-3, 205
Analysis: Was drafted by Minnesota in 2008. Very athletic outfielder leads in home runs with 9 and steals with 22. Has tremendous upside. Needs to curtail strikeouts.
15)Milwaukee Daniel Norris
LHP Science Hill HS 6-3, 180
Analysis: Lefty from Tennessee who has committed to Clemson. Also a classically-trained pianist. Has a fastball that can reach 97 and a quality change up. Very well-grounded.
16)LA Dodgers Anthony Meo
RHP Coastal Carol. 6-2, 190
Analysis: Was drafted by Washington in 2008. Mid nineties fastball with an 88mph slider.
17)LA Angels Matt Purke
LHP TCU 6-4, 180
Analysis: Very thin frame who can reach 94-95. Breaking ball is slow and durability is a concern. He is having a great season statistically at TCU.
18)Oakland Tyler Beede
RHP Lawrence Ac. 6-4, 200
Analysis: Another pitcher with big arm that reaches 95 and a tight curveball. Still developing as a prospect.
19)Boston Jackie Bradley Jr.
CF South Carolina 5-10, 175
Analysis: Great all-around talent who lacks size. Great arm with a great baseball IQ.
20)Colorado Dillon Howard
RHP Search HS 6-2, 200
Anaylsis: Committed to Arkansas, his home state. Has outstanding change up. Throws a 92mph fastball and should get stronger over the years.
21)Toronto Tyler Anderson
LHP Oregon 6-3, 195
Analysis: Anderson has thrived on an underachieving Ducks team. Has gone 6-1 with a 1.51 ERA and 92 Ks in 83.1 IP. Has low nineties fastball and deceptive delivery.
22)St. Louis Blake Swihart
C Cleveland HS(NM) 6-0, 175
Analysis: Has committed to Texas. He’s a switch hitter and one of the best in high school. Can hit with power from both sides of the plate but may not remain behind the dish.
23)Washington Alex Meyer
RHP Kentucky 6-9, 210
Analysis: This Kentucky commitment has great size. Doesn’t always have great command. Needs better off-speed stuff. Washington gets this pick for losing Adam Dunn.
24)Tampa Bay Henry Owens
LHP Edison HS 6-5, 185
Analysis: Committed to Miami (Fla.). This lefty has long frame who throw just 92 right now but should throw harder in the future with more strength.
25)San Diego Andrew Susac
C Oregon State 6-1, 205
Analysis: Was drafted by Phillies in 2009. He broke his hamate bone and might be done for the year. Best collegiate catcher with a strong arm and good power.
26)Boston Jose Fernandez
RHP Alonso HS (Fl) 6-3, 215
Analysis: Fernandez was born in Cuba. Has a plus fastball that can reach mid to low 90s.
27)Cincinnati Miki Mahtook
OF LSU 6-1, 205
Analysis: Was freshman on the National championship team at LSU. High-energy guy with good arm. Could be 20-20 in majors.
28)Atlanta Brian Goodwin
OF Miami Dade JS 6-1, 190
Analysis: Left North Carolina after his freshman year instead of riding out a suspension. A natural athlete with great speed who has 5 tools.
29)San Fran. Levi Michael
SS North Carolina 5-10, 180
Analysis: A unique situation as a player who left high school a semester early and started as a freshman. Can play SS, 3B and 2B.
30)Minnesota Jason Esposito
SS/3B Vanderbilt 6-1, 195
Analysis: Was drafted by Kansas City in 2008. Plays for a great college team. Very good fielder with decent pop. Compared to Ryan Zimmerman at third with potential to hit 30 homers.
