Controversial defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones has reportedly agreed to a contract with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Jones turned down an offer from the upstart United Football League to sign with the CFL.
“It’ll be a good experience for me to get back in game shape and compete and play football, which I like to do,” Jones said. “I’m real happy for the opportunity that’s been given to me. Of course it’s disappointing to me to not be playing in the NFL. But things happen and you have to adjust.”
Jones spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys after a one-year suspension from the league. He played his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
Numerous off-field incidents during his first two NFL seasons eventually led to a one-year suspension from commissioner Roger Goodell. After being reinstated, an altercation with a bodyguard last October resulted in another four-game lapse.
The Cowboys released the former West Virginia standout in February and there were no offers from NFL teams this summer.
In nine games for Dallas last season, Jones registered 31 tackles. He also returned seven kickoffs for a 22.1-yard average and added 21 punt returns for an average of 4.5 yards.
For his career, Jones has 146 tackles, four interceptions and a touchdown in 39 games. He also has a 25.8-yard kickoff return average and a 9.6-yard punt return average with four scores.
