ATS Fearless Predictions: Week of February 1st – February 7th 2010
- Despite countless requests and excessive rumors, “The General” Larry Platt will not be performing “Pants on the Ground” at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
- Both Cornell and Siena will be ranked in the Top 25 in the AP College Basketball Pool.
- Golden State Warriors PG Monta Ellis will score 63 points on Wednesday night against Dallas. Rumors continue to surface around trades involving Ellis. Expect the Warriors PG to have a lot of success against the Mavericks backcourt … whom has given up a lot of points of late.
- Expect both SG Dwyane Wade and SF Lebron James to record triple-doubles on Thursday night, as the Miami Heat visit the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- Despite reports of having a partially torn ligament in his ankle, expect Colts DE Dwight Freeney to be ready to play versus the Saints in this Sunday’s Super Bowl. There is no chance that Freeney will miss this game.
- The hire of Mike Martz to run the Chicago Bears offense next season, makes RB Matt Forte a fantasy stud again – possibly a top five fantasy player.
- The NY Jets will not be fined for tampering regarding the pursuit of Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
- On Saturday, there will be an announcement that there are five newly elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010. Those selected this year will be Jerry Rice, Emmit Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Dick Lebeau, and Russ Grimm.
- Phil Mickelson will finally succumb to ridicule by his golfing peers, and officially apologize for using an illegal club in his bag for many years. Though Mickelson doesn’t have or show any remorse, he’ll want to put this scandal behind him before it grows into something unmanageable – like Tiger’s.
- 19 year-old Joey Logano will capture the Budweiser Shootout Saturday at the Daytona Speedway in Florida. Logano will shed some light on his bright future by taking the first event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup calendar.
- All three of these historic programs: UCLA, UNC, and UCONN will find themselves not only on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but probably out of the bracket itself this season.
- The worst team in Division I college basketball, the Bryant Bulldogs of the Northeast Conference, will continue their losing ways on Thursday evening, with a loss to Central Connecticut State. This loss will move Bryant’s record to 0-23 on the season. The Bulldogs will lose to the same Central Connecticut State team on Saturday as well, moving their record to 0-24.
- Newly appointed #1 Kansas will remain at the top of AP Men’s College Basketball rankings this week, as they’ll defeat both Colorado and Nebraska. But a loss is looming early next week, as the Jayhawks visit Texas on Monday.
- Several players on both Indianapolis and New Orleans will donate their Super Bowl game day checks to Haiti relief efforts with Colts WR Pierre Garcon leading the way.
- The Washington Wizards will complete one of many upcoming trades this week, by sending C Brendon Haywood to Portland in exchange for SG Rudy Fernandez. Haywood will become the Trailblazers starting center immediately, whereas Fernandez would likely come off the bench for the Wizards.
- The Washington Wizards will not be finished there, expect the Wizards to pull off another deal sending SF Mike Miller and PG Mike James to Philadelphia for PF Elton Brand.
- Super Bowl XLIV will begin with Queen Latifah’s rendition of “America the Beautiful” and then Carrie Underwood will sing our National Anthem – no wardrobe malfunctions here, just some good old-fashioning singing. Let the commercials begin!!!
- The Super Bowl XLIV Coin Toss will be “HEADS” and the toss will be won by the New Orleans Saints. The Saints will take possession of the ball first. Members of the NASA crew Atlantis will be present for the coin toss.
- WR Marques Colston will score the first TD of Super Bowl XLIV with a 25-yard TD reception in the first quarter. Obviously the pass will be thrown by QB Drew Brees. The TD will be setup by a 45-yard Kickoff return from Courtney Roby.
- The first quarter of Super Bowl XLIV will end with a big interception from New Orleans Saints CB Randall Gay. Gay will pick off a Peyton Manning pass over the middle near the red zone in Saints territory. The quarter will end with the Saints on top 14-7.
- The Colts will not be able to handle the speed of the New Orleans Saints offense throughout most of the game, as shown in the 2nd Quarter as QB Drew Brees hits WR Robert Meachem for a 65-yard TD pass. The Saints go into halftime with the lead: New Orleans 24 and Indianapolis Colts 14
- The Who will perform at halftime and “CSI-Miami” star David Caruso will join announcers JIm Nantz and Phil Simms in the booth, talking about Peyton Manning’s heart and toughness (all while turning his head slightly to the left as he speaks) – truly gripping.
- The Colts will show some life in the 3rd Quarter, as WR Pierre Garcon will find holes in the Saints secondary, scoring twice in the quarter. The Saints lead at the end of the 3rd: 34-28.
- The 4th Quarter is when RB Reggie Bush takes over. An exhausted Colts defense will have trouble finding Bush dancing around, as the Saints use up a lot of time on two long scoring drives in the quarter. The Colts go into their two minute offense midway through the quarter – the Saints will win Super Bowl XLIV!!! Projection: New Orleans Saints 48 and Indianapolis Colts 38
