Byron Scott Fired as Hornets Coach

byron scott Byron Scott Fired as Hornets CoachFormer Lakers star Byron Scott has been fired as coach of the New Orleans Hornets and he will be replaced by General Manager Jeff Bower.

Owner George Shinn said in a prepared statement that the change gives the Hornets the best opportunity “to reach our goals this season.”

The Hornets also announced that former New Orleans head coach Tim Floyd, who resigned as coach at USC prior to this season, will be one of Bower’s top assistants.

New Orleans lost 124-104 at Phoenix on Wednesday, falling to 3-6 to start the season.

When Scott took over as coach after the 2003-04 season, he was the Hornets’ third coach in three seasons. He was the NBA coach of the year in 2008, when the Hornets finished 56-26. He was in the last year of his contract.

Scott has often been mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Phil Jackson as Lakers coach whenever Jackson decides to step down.
