Delaware Signs Sports Betting Legislation Into Law
Delaware is now the only state in the eastern U.S. to legalize sports betting. The ink is barely dry on the bill that Governor Jack Markell signed into law on Thursday.
State officials plan to have sports betting operations up and running within the next three months. Other games such as poker, craps and roulette should be up and running within the next six months.
Markell hopes that legalized sports betting can help ease Delaware’s financial shortfall of over $600 million in the next fiscal year.
Delaware, Nevada, Montana and Oregon are the only 4 states currently grandfathered under a federal law dating back to 1992 that prohibits sports gambling.
