Ingram not expected to play this week
Star running back Mark Ingram apparently will miss his first two games this season, diminishing
his chances of repeating as Heisman Trophy winner.
Alabama coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that the junior tailback is unlikely to play for the top-ranked Crimson Tide against Penn State.
Saban said that Ingram was able to run Tuesday and his left knee is “improving every day,” but he probably won’t play against the Nittany Lions.
Ingram ran for 1,658 yards last season for the Crimson Tide and scored 17 touchdowns, helping lead Alabama to a BCS Championship over Texas.
The Tide hosts No. 19 Penn State on Saturday night in its biggest test of the season.
Ingram sat out the opener after having an arthroscopic procedure to repair an injury sustained in practice early on opening week.
Backup Trent Richardson had 10 carries for 66 yards in just one half of action and rushed for a pair of touchdowns to go with three catches for 46 yards in the win over San Jose State.
