Jered Weaver suspended for 6 games
Major league baseball has been busy handing out suspensions as of late.
The Angels’ star pitcher Jered Weaver is the latest player to suffer consequences. He was suspended six games for intentionally throwing at Alex Avila during Sunday’s game. Manager Mike Scioscia was also suspended a game, which he will serve on Tuesday night.
Weaver was also fined an undisclosed amount.
Weaver, who has decided to appeal, threw over Avila’s head, right after Carlos Guillen showboated on a home run — infuriating the right-hander.
Guillen then flipped his bat, posed at the plate and skipped a few steps sideways, prompting Weaver to scream at him before Guillen rounded the bases.
Umpire Harry Wendelstedt then warned both benches but Weaver threw the next pitch near Avila’s head and was quickly ejected along with Scioscia.
As Weaver started walking off the field, he started cursing and gesturing at Detroit’s bench.
Weaver’s suspension is the same length as Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco, who was docked six games on Monday for throwing at the Royals’ Billy Butler.
