UNDER 8 Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers:
Nice matchup tonight at Dodger Stadium in the second of this three game set. Yovanni Gallardo goes the Brewers while Hiroki Kuroda takes the hill for LA.
Gallardo (10-7, 3.13) has really established himself as one of the top starters in the National League, especially of late. He started the year great, had a few struggles in June and early July, but has been terrific since the All Star break. In his last two starts, he’s given up three runs in 14 1/3 innings of work. Last out he struck out 11 Nationals en route to a victory.
Hiroki Kuroda (3-5, 4.44) is another guy who has been up and down in ‘09, but seems to have found a nice groove of late. Even though he didn’t get a decision in either start, he’s given up just 4 runs in his last 12 innings pitched, while striking out 14. Hopefully he can keep this going for the rest of the year, because LA could use him, especially with Chad Billingsley getting hurt the other night.
Seattle -120 over Kansas City:
Ryan Rowland Smith (1-1 3.12) is back in the Mariners rotation with Erik Bedard’s injury troubles and the trade of Jarrod Washburn, and it appears he’s prepared to make the best of it this time around. He outpitched Roy Halladay last Wednesday, in a 3-2 win. Rowland Smith didn’t walk a batter and only allowed 3 hits in 7 innings of work. He should be fine against the Royals offense tonight.
Luke Hochevar (6-4, 5.28) has been up and down this year and is coming off a terrible start in Baltimore last Thursday. He allowed 7 runs on 11 hits in 6 innigs of work. Hochevar, the former #1 overall pick in the draft is 3-1 with a 5.74 ERA in his last 5 starts. Expect the M’s to get back on track tonight in KC.
