UNDER 10 Toronto Blue Jays / New York Yankees:

Afternoon Holiday Baseball at Yankee Stadium is quite a tradition. Remember Dave Righetti’s no hitter in 1983? Here’s another chance at history as the Blue Jays come to town for the weekend.

AJ Burnett (6-4, 3.93) has been lights out of late for the Yankees. He’s allowed just 1 run in his last 20 1/3 innings of work while striking out 26. After a slow start, he’s become the pitcher the Yankees had hoped he’d become. He’ll face a Toronto team who isn’t the most offensively effective team in the league.

Brian Tallet (5-5, 4.47) has had a nice year in his first year of starting. He was forced into the rotation because of injuries to Dustin Mcgowan and Shaun Marcum, and answered the bell nicely. His recent efforts have been good, allowing 5 runs in his last 17 innings pitched. Expect a well pitched, low scoring game this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

OVER 9.5 St. Louis Cardinals / Cincinnati Reds:

The aptly named Great American Ballpark hosts this weekend series between the Cardinals and the Reds. Game 1 tonight should be a high scoring affair as former phenom Homer Bailey (1-0, 8.68) takes the hill for the Reds against Joel Piniero (6-9, 3.44).

Bailey has been awful so far this year and is quickly falling out of favor with the Reds. He’s started twice this season and has been rocked to the tune of 9 runs in 9 1.3 innings pitched. What’s more of a concern is the 13 walks in that small time frame. Facing the league’s best hitter in Albert Pujols normally isn’t best for what ails a starting pitcher, so look for Bailey to continue to struggle.

Pineiro has done a nice job for the Cards this season, and in a strange stat, actually has a decision in all 15 of his starts this year. He normally keeps his team in the game, and has pitched into the seventh inning in each of his last 4 starts. In his only outing against the Reds in 2009 he allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings, taking the loss on May 8.
