NBA Rewind for March 15th
Another exciting weekend of NBA action is in the books as the regular season races towards the playoffs. While the best teams in the league continue their pursuit of locking up the top seeds in their respective conferences, the rest are fighting for their postseason life. Here is a brief review of the top games from this past weekend.
Lebron James returned to action on Friday night, after missing a week with a minor ankle injury to lead the Cavaliers to a 100-95 win over the 76ers. He ended the night with 23 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds, but the Cavs could not cover the 7 ½ point spread.
The nine point favorite Celtics snapped a two game losing streak with a 122-103 win over the Pacers. The Heat, an 11 ½ point favorite over Chicago at home covered the spread with a 108-95 victory. The reeling Bulls have now lost seven straight games. The Nuggets, a 5 ½ road favorite over New Orleans, won by seven 102-95. Carmelo Anthony scored a game high 32 points to lead Denver.
The LA Clippers were 10 point underdogs on the road against Charlotte. While they did not come away with the win, they did cover the spread in the 98-106 loss to the Bobcats. In two of the best match ups of the night, the Bucks beat the Utah Jazz in Milwaukee 95-87 in a game that was a pick and the LA Lakers beat division foe Phoenix 102-96 in a game they were favored by 2 ½.
Saturday’s action started with the Hawks pounding out a 112-99 win over the Pistons in a game they were favored by 11 ½. The Magic, an 11 ½ point road favorite came away with a 109-95 win over the Wizards.
Dwight Howard led Orlando with 28 points and 15 rebounds. J.R. Smith hit seven out of 10 from three point range to lead the Nuggets to a 125-108 win over the Grizzlies. He ended the night with a game high 30 points. In the biggest shocker of the weekend, the Knicks, an 11 point road dog beat Dallas 128-94, ending the Maverick’s 13 game winning streak. In this game, New York was 16 of 30 from three point range.
The Cavaliers were back in action on Sunday, beating the Celtics 104-93 at home. James scored a game high 30 points in the win. The Bucks squeaked past the Pacers 98-94 in a game they were favored to win by 9 ½. The Suns, a 10 point favorite rolled over the Hornets 120-106.
The Trail Blazers had little trouble with the Raptors, coming away with a 109-98 victory. The Magic, a nine point favorite as home were stunned by the Bobcats 89-96. The loss ended their eight game winning streak. In other games, the Heat beat the 76ers 104-91, the Thunder upended the Jazz 119-111, and the Kings beat the Timberwolves 114-100.
