NFL Opening Day Lines: Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants | NFL Odds

giants redskins NFL Opening Day Lines: Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants | NFL OddsThe Washington Redskins head into the Meadowlands of New Jersey to play the New York Giants on opening day in a classic NFC East showdown. The game is scheduled for 4:15 P.M. (EST) on Sunday, September 13th. The Giants are currently favored by 6 points and the over/under is set at 39.5. These two teams met last year on opening day with the Giants winning 16-7 at home. Neither team has been stellar the last few seasons on opening day as the The Redskins have lost three out of their last four opening day games, and the Giants have dropped two out of their last three.

New York has Washington’s number lately winning five out the last six head to head games they have played, including a two game sweep last season. Both teams started last season on fire with the Giants going 7-1 and the Redskins going 6-2 in the first half of the season. New York continued their winning ways ending the season 12-4 and gained home field advantage for the playoffs. Unfortunately it was a wasted effort as they were beaten by Philadelphia in the divisional round after the whole Plaxico Burress ordeal took its toll. Washington on the other hand quickly unraveled losing 6 of their last 8 to finish last in the East. Both teams will look to erase the memories of last season’s disappointment by jumping out to a quick start in this game.

The key to both these teams offensive attack is to move the ball on the ground and chew up the clock. New York ended up ranked 1st in the league in rushing yards per game with 157 and Washington ranked 8th with a 131 yards. The big difference was in points per game as the Giants averaged 27 which was third best, while the Redskins only averaged 16.6 which was fourth worst. This all adds up to a ball control game plan that should keep the scoring low. In the last five victories over the ‘Skins the Giants have won by an average of 10.4 points, so I would look for a final score somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-10 New York.
