Oregon RB James Jailed
Oregon running back LaMichael James, who won the Pac-10′s offensive freshman player of the year award, remained jailed Wednesday following his arrest in an alleged domestic violence incident.
According to a filing on the Lane County Sheriff’s Office’s Web site, James was booked by Springfield, Ore., police at 3 a.m. local time Wednesday on charges of strangulation, assault and menacing.
The alleged victim was identified as James’ girlfriend, according to Sgt. Tom Borchers of the Springfield police department. The incident occurred at James’ residence on Monday and was reported to police the following day, at which time a formal complaint was filed.
James, of Texarkana, Texas, stepped in as a starter for the Ducks when teammate LaGarrette Blount was suspended for throwing a postgame punch at a Boise State player. James went on to lead Pac-10 champion Oregon with 1,546 rushing yards, second in the conference to Stanford’s Toby Gerhart, and scored 14 touchdowns. James averaged 118.9 yards a game and received second-team All-Pac-10 honors.
