Offseason Analysis:

The Titans had a whopping 11 selections overall and ended up taking Kenny Britt from Rutgers, the first receiver taken by Tennessee in the first round in 11 years. Britt is a talented receiver with size, who should play right away. In the second round, they selected DT Sen’Derrick Marks, to add depth at tackle. That became a need after they lost Albert Haynesworth in free agency.

In the third round, they grabbed Jared Cook, a quality tight end from South Carolina, who many felt was the second tight end after Brandon Pettigrew. The Titans shipped a second-rounder in 2010 to New England to jump up and take him. In their other third round selection, the Tigers took Ryan Mouton from Hawaii. He becomes the replacement for Chris Carr (gone in free agency), who can play in sub packages as a nickel or dime corner. In the fourth, they took Gerald McRath, who will provide depth at weak-side linebacker. WIth their other fourth-rounder, they took Troy Kropog from Tulane, who can play either tackle spot or move inside to play guard.

In the fifth, they took Javon Ringer, a workhorse of a back who can provide depth behind Chris Johnson. They took another corner in the sixth, when they chose Jason McCourty from Rutgers. He has the size (6-0, 193) to be effective and can also return kicks. They also took another receiver in the sixth round when they selected Dominique Edison from Stephen F. Austin. He has the speed and size to make an impact early and certainly on special teams. In the seventh, they added depth by selecting G Ryan Durand from Syracuse and S Nick Schommer from North Dakota State.

The Titans suffered some very difficult losses, especially the loss of DT Albert Haynesworth, one of the league’s most dominant defensive players. He signed with Washington and left a gaping hole on the Titans’ defensive line. Jeff Fisher always seem to find ways of overachieving, but it will be difficult matching last year’s 13-3 record without Haynesworth and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who moved on to Detroit as head coach. The Titans did add Nate Washington, the third receiver with the Steelers, who will start. He could be a slight upgrade over Bradon Jones, who signed with San Francisco.
