Tennessee Volunteers QB Crompton discusses death threats

jonathan crompton Tennessee Volunteers QB Crompton discusses death threats Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton confirmed that he had received death threats last season as the Volunteers struggled to a 5-7 record, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.

The newspaper reported the death threats months ago, but only recently did Crompton reluctantly acknowledge that they occurred, according to the report.

Crompton received the death threats via email. He also received prank calls when his phone number was revealed on the Internet, though the calls were not threatening. A package Crompton’s parents ordered arrived with slanderous language about their son on the box, according to the report.

The quarterback revealed little about the calls and emails to his parents and the Tennessee athletic department, according to the report. “I really didn’t talk about it that much,” Crompton said. “You don’t say ‘Poor me.’ ”

Crompton completed 51.5 percent of his passes last season for 889 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
