What to Watch on the Tube this Weekend: Feb. 5-7
It’s Super Bowl weekend, but there’s also a lot of hoops on tap and NASCAR so let’s get right to it.
On Friday, let’s get it started with some golf as the second round of the Northern Trust Open is underway from Pacific Palisades, California on The Golf Channel, at 5pmET.
In boxing, welterweight Joey Hernandez takes on Ed Paredes from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on ESPN2 at 10:30pmET. There’s also a Showtime card at 11pmET, featuring junior welterweights, Francisco Contreras and Juan Castaneda Jr.
The NBA doubleheader is back this week on Friday starting with Chicago at Atlanta on ESPN at 8pmET. The LA Lakers host Denver at 10:30pmET, though stars Carmelo Anthony and Kobe Bryant are both battling injuries.
On Saturday, NASCAR gets underway with Dayton 500 qualifying on Fox at 1pmET. Then there’s the Budweiser Shootout from Daytona on Fox at 8pmET.
In men’s college basketball, the day starts out with Villanova at Georgetown on ESPN at noon, though a blizzard may interfere with that game. Dayton hosts Xavier in a huge Atlantic 10 matchup on ESPN2 at noon.
At 2pmET, Duke, coming off a pasting of Georgia Tech at home, is back on the road to face Boston College on ESPN. At the same time, Kansas State is also at Iowa State on ESPN2.
At 4pmET, Oklahoma hosts Texas on ESPN, while Gonzaga is at Memphis in a non-conference matchup on ESPN2. On CBS at 4pmET, they’ll have regional coverage of either California at UCLA or Michigan hosting Wisconsin. Versus will televise the BYU at UNLV game at the same time.
At 6pmET, Northern Iowa hosts Southern Illinois on ESPN2 in a big MVC contest. In prime time, Wright State is at Butler on ESPN2 at 8pmET, while Illinois hosts Michigan State for the big ESPN matchup.
At 10pmET, UTEP hosts Tulsa on ESPN2, while Arizona State is at Washington on FSN at 10:30pmET. In women’s college basketball, Texas A&M is at Nebraska on FSN at 1pmET, while Arizona State hosts Washington State on FSN at 3pmET.
On Sunday, before we get to the big game, there’s an ACC contest on at 2pmET, as North Carolina is at Maryland (weather permitting) on FSN. In women’s hoops, USC is at Stanford at 4pmET on FSN.
There is one NBA game as Boston hosts Orlando on ABC at 2:30pmET.
In the NHL, there’s a big matchup between the streaking Washington Caps, who host Pittsburgh at noon on NBC.
Final round coverage of the Northern Trust Open begins on NBC at 2:30pmET.
And finally, Super Bowl XLIV coverage from Miami takes place throughout the day on CBS, but the big game starts at 6:25pmET, between the Colts and Saints. Who do you like?
