An early morning accident left North Carolina State linebacker Nate Irving with both multiple injuries and a couple of traffic citations on Saturday morning.
According to the police report, Irving was cited for careless and reckless driving in a one-car crash that left the Wolfpack LB with a broken leg and collapsed lung.
Irving was driving from his home back to the N.C. State campus at 4:40 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle veered off the left side of the interstate. After over-correcting, Irving went off the right side of the highway and struck two trees.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the wreck, but, as indicated in the incident report, Irving may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The starting LB was scheduled for surgery last night, and there’s still no indication as to what the injuries will mean for his ability to play in 2009.
The Wolfpack was 1-4 in games where Irving was injured for all or part of the contests. In games where he was healthy, they were 5-3.
